چکیده

introduction: giardia and cryptosporidium are two of the most common parasitic protozoa that cause acute intestinal infections in children, all of the world. these parsites find in water environments, such as untreated water , wastewaters and even treated water. according to, a precise study on surface water was not done, in our country, necessity of precise study by ifa method that is prescise and newer than simple microscopic method on drinking water supplies aim to finding of parasit, is appreciated. material and methos: using ifa and eosin stainig methods, untreated water, water of main refinery system and water of six hamadan drinking water reserviour was studied and data analysis was done by: spss version 10 © 2005 chicago. finding: means of giardia cysts and cryptosporidium oocysts, stainined with ifa method, in 100l treated water for each one was 0.25 and in 100l untreated water were respectively 2.5 and 1.5 measure of viable giardia cysts and viable cryptosporidium oocysts were seen with eosin method, in 100l treated water for each one was 0.0 and in 100l untreated water were respectively 0.5 and 0.1. discussion: finding show that hamadan main source of untreated water have giardia cysts and cryptosporidium oocysts higher than standard measure (for giardia and cryptosporidium is respectively 0.1 and 0.01 in 100l) and pollution is sensible. viable cysts or oocysts in one of refinery system's port were not seen and in another system, 1 nonviable cyst were seen, but, in urban water reserviours, five zone have both parasits and one of them have 1 giardia cyst only, that indicate secondary pollution of urban water reserviours.

Presence of Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts in drinking water supplies in northern Spain.

AIMS To evaluate the prevalence of Cryptosporidium and Giardia in surface water supplies from the province of Alava, northern Spain, and to investigate possible associations among the presence of these pathogenic protozoa with microbiological, physicochemical and atmospheric parameters. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 284 samples of drinking and recreational water supplies were analysed. Crypt...

Batch solar disinfection inactivates oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum and cysts of Giardia muris in drinking water.

AIM To determine whether batch solar disinfection (SODIS) can be used to inactivate oocysts of Cryptosporidium parvum and cysts of Giardia muris in experimentally contaminated water. METHODS AND RESULTS Suspensions of oocysts and cysts were exposed to simulated global solar irradiation of 830 W m(-2) for different exposure times at a constant temperature of 40 degrees C. Infectivity tests wer...

Detection of Giardia and Cryptosporidium cysts/oocysts in watersheds and drinking water sources in Brazil urban areas.

The protozoan parasites Giardia and Cryptosporidium have been described as important waterborne disease pathogens, and are associated with severe gastrointestinal illnesses. The objective of this paper was to investigate the presence of Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts in samples from watershed catchments and treated water sources. A total of 25 water samples were collected and examine...

Sedimentation of free and attached Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts in water.

Experimental analysis of the sedimentation velocity of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts and Giardia lamblia cysts was compared with mathematical description of their sedimentation velocities by using measurements of (oo)cyst size and density and the density and viscosity of the sedimentation medium to determine if the sedimentation kinetics of freely suspended oocysts of C. parvum and cysts of G....

Occurrence of Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts in water supplies of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

During June 1996, water supplies of the city of San Pedro Sula, Honduras, were sampled to obtain an assessment of Cryptosporidium oocyst and Giardia cyst concentrations. Each sample was concentrated and stained with an indirect immunofluorescent antibody, and parasites were counted through microscopic analysis. In three surface water supplies, Cryptosporidium oocyst concentrations ranged from 5...

Occurrence of Cryptosporidium oocysts and Giardia cysts in raw water from the Atibaia River, Campinas, Brazil.

Cryptosporidium parvum and Giardia duodenalis are waterborne parasites that have caused several outbreaks of gastrointestinal disease associated with drinking water. Due to the lack of studies about the occurrence of these protozoa in water in the Southeast of Brazil, an investigation was conducted to verify the presence of cysts and oocysts in superficial raw water of the Atibaia River. The wa...
